Apple keeps 87% of iPhone users in early 2026, showing strong customer loyalty.

People who use iPhones are less and less likely to change to another phone. New studies show that customer loyalty is now higher than it has been in many years.
According to a report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), shared by MacRumors, 87% of people who bought an iPhone in early 2026 had already used an iPhone before.
This number went up from 84% last year at the same time. At the same time, the number of Android users moving to Apple’s system kept going down.
CIRP’s survey shows that only 12% of new iPhone buyers came from Android in the March quarter, down from 14% a year earlier.
The other 1% of new iPhone buyers came from basic phones, other smartphone types, or bought their first smartphone.
The numbers show that the fight between iPhone and Android is mostly about keeping their current users. CIRP says that people switching from Android have been 11% to 15% of new iPhone buyers for the past few years.
This number is much lower than during the iPhone’s early growth period, when Apple was adding more carriers and attracting many first-time buyers.
This shows that the smartphone market is becoming more mature, with most people having chosen their favorite system and being less likely to switch when it’s time to upgrade.
A long-rumored foldable iPhone could shake things up, as Apple may enter this market soon.
This might attract customers who already use foldable phones from Samsung, Google, and other Android brands. Smartphone users seem more loyal to their current platforms, with few switching each year.
As new AI features and better hardware come out, the focus changes from getting new users to keeping them by giving them good reasons to stay.
