WhatsApp has started giving some users the ability to save usernames.

WhatsApp is starting to let a small group of users reserve new usernames, just days after first showing the feature.
The username reservation feature, which lets users get a unique handle before a broader release, was first launched by WhatsApp last month.
To get a username, users can go to Settings > Account, then pick Username. There, they can also set privacy options, choosing if anyone with their username can message them or if new contacts need to give a four-digit PIN with the username.
If the username is already used on Facebook or Instagram, WhatsApp may ask users to prove they own that account.
This rule helps stop bad people from using popular usernames or pretending to be someone else to trick others.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has started giving some users special usernames. People in this first group now see a message at the top of their chat list saying their username is ready and can be shared with new friends.
Reports say that both beta testers and normal WhatsApp users are beginning to see this feature. But for now, only a few accounts can use it.
To check if your account has access, look for the banner at the top of your chat list or go to the Username section in your profile.
On that page, WhatsApp will either confirm the username is active or show a message saying usernames will be available soon.
